A Pause to Check In: A Practice in Curiosity to Make Space for Clarity
Greetings!
Although I haven’t been in your inbox for a while, now seems like an ideal moment to pause and reconnect as we near the end of the first quarter.
January often arrives with an unspoken pressure to know where we’re going and how we’ll get there. There's usually a bit of relief when the pressure of the new year starts to settle and we find a new rhythm. This year, life’s rhythm has felt intense and fast-paced, a sentiment shared by those around me, including myself, and may resonate with you as well. Recognising that the first quarter is drawing to a close, March serves as an important prompt to take a moment to pause and reassess.
This is an invitation to pause, notice and stay curious, without needing to make sense of everything or find immediate answers.
A Practice in Curiosity to Make Space for Clarity
Not all clarity arrives in a sudden moment of insight. Often it gathers quietly when we stay curious and allow ourselves time to notice what our experiences might be showing us. This week, you might pause with a gentle practice, exploring unrushed curiosity that can lead to deeper clarity and insight.
Let me offer a reflection exercise to explore this practice. Curiosity invites us to look again at what we may have quickly judged, dismissed, or moved past.
What in my life right now might be asking for a little more curiosity? You might notice a feeling that keeps returning, perhaps frustration at work, tiredness that lingers, a quiet tension in a relationship, or an urgent need for a solution. Instead of pushing the feeling aside, you might simply wonder: What might this be trying to show me?
What If I met this situation with curiosity rather than judgment, what might I begin to understand differently? Sometimes the shift is small. Moving from “I handled that badly” to “What was happening for me in that moment?” can open a different kind of awareness.
Where in my life do I feel pressure to “figure things out” quickly? Perhaps around a decision about work, a relationship, or your next step.
What possibilities could emerge if I allowed this to unfold a little more slowly or if gave this process more time to develop? Instead of asking “What is the answer?” you might ask: What is becoming clearer as I. sit with this a little longer?
What is one small awareness I want to carry with me from this reflection? It doesn’t need to be an answer, instead, it could simply be a quiet step toward greater clarity and insight.
A Final Thought
Sometimes the way ahead isn’t obvious. Moments of uncertainty can teach us to lean into patience instead of pressure and simply embracing the present can be just as liberating. Growth can be quiet, and progress doesn’t always come with clear markers.
It’s worth remembering that we are all still a work in progress, learning and growing as we go.
